This book describes the fundamental scientific and engineering principles of nuclear reactor systems. It covers nuclear reactions and radiations, the control of nuclear reactors, energy removal, fuel and materials, and radiation protection. Even though the book is not very recent, the basics are still very much valid. The reader should have at least an undergraduate engineering level in order to follow all the developments.

Présentation des bases, des principes et expériences propres à induire les comportements conformes à ce qu’on appelle maintenant la “culture de sûreté”, à l’attention des personnes impliquées dans la sûreté des installations nucléaires. L’auteur insiste sur la construction progressive de la sûreté et sur les difficultés rencontrées en France, malgré un bilan globalement très satisfaisant de la sûreté des installations françaises. Il traite aussi des applications pratiques relatives aux calculs des conséquences radiologiques ou de la probabilité de certaines séquences accidentelles. Le lecteur disposera ainsi d’exemples lui permettant d’obtenir lui-même des ordres de grandeur des phénomènes. La clarté de sa présentation rend cet ouvrage accessible à un large public.
